In deze film staat de relatie tussen een meesterspion en een moedige vrouw centraal. De Engelsen kennen hem als Faber, maar voor het Vaderland is hij de loyale en dodelijk spion die bekend staat als The Needle. Tijdens zijn terugkeer naar Duitsland strandt hij op een voorpost waar hij bevriend raakt met Lucy, een mooie Engelse vrouw die daar met haar familie woont, eenzaam en veracht door haar verbitterde echtgenoot. Lucy valt voor de raadselachtige vreemdeling, niet wetende dat hij een verrader is, vastbesloten om de D-day invasie te voorkomen. Maar als hun passie losbarst ontdekt Lucy de meedogenloze waarheid.
