Dr. Jack Hammond, een briljant hartchirurg, gedraagt zich zeer beschaafd, hecht grote waarde aan cultuur, opleiding en algemene ontwikkeling en heeft een nominatie om Geneesheer Directeur te worden van een Academisch Ziekenhuis. Zijn zoon, Chris Hammond, een wat losbandige tiener, heeft grote problemen om aan de extreem hoge eisen van zijn vader te voldoen en z'n proefwerkcijfers zijn bijna onder het vriespunt. Door toeval komt een drankje van een oude medicijnman terecht in het glas van Jack en vader en zoon verwisselen van lichaam. Pa gaat kauwgomkauwend naar school en zoonlief stapt in de Jaguar op weg naar zijn eerste hartoperatie… En dat is nog maar het begin!
